Abstract

An epidemic or pandemic is a health emergency. in the last decade various outbreaks have affected parts or most continents of the world. They include H1N1 influenza virus, severe acute respiratory syndrome (SARS), Lassa fever, Ebola and now Covid-19.

If every doctor is fully aware of his leadership role and steps into it, infection, prevention and control will be more effective. The doctor is a key player in every nation of the world including Nigeria and leading by example as well as playing other major roles are pertinent to curbing the spread, encourage community compliance, effective policy making and in preventing reoccurrences.
